Please feel free to borrow our ordnance survey map and explore the local area.
One of the best walks has to be up to Quy Hall and along the river to Lode and Lode Mill. Along here, you will pass behind the grounds of Anglesey Abbey (a National Trust property). Walk down Orchard Street towards the main road and on your left at the end you will see a metal 5 bar gate behind which there is a long avenue. Walk right to the end of the avenue and turn left after the style, passing through another style on your left straight away. Walk forwards towards the river and Quy Hall should come into view.
As you face the hall, turn right and walk along the river, climbing over a style into a wooded area. At the end you will come to Quy pond where there are normally a collection of duck and swans to feed or horses having a splash with their riders.
Cross over the bridge, pass through another style on your right and follow the river along. Please note that the first section of this is through a field of horses. You will eventually reach a wooded section, which is quite enchanting and finally come into Lode where the water mill still produces flour.
Post Office & Shop
Open 5 days a week (closed Wednesdays and Sundays), the shop provides a selection of groceries including fresh produce, chilled products, household and personal care items. Other features are an off-licence, a post office service and a cash machine.
The Wheatsheaf (01223 812196) and White Swan (01223 811821) are both just a short walk away, The Wheatsheaf being the closest as it is only slightly beyond the entrance of Orchard Street. Both offer lunches and evening meals.
The Quy Mill (01223 293383)
This is a grade II listed water mill serving good food, real ales and about 50 Malt Whiskies.

Fish & Chips
A fish and chip van visits Stow-cum-Quy on Wednesday evenings at “around” 7.15pm/7.30pm and parks up this end of Main Street (see map). It plays a distinctive tune when it’s on it’s way but this can not be heard from the Coach House!!
There is a bus that runs through Quy to Cambridge and Newmarket. The bus stop can be found on foot by turning right out of the driveway and then turning right down a gravelled pathway on the left hand side of no. 19. This takes you to the main road. Turn right and just outside the Church on the opposite side of the road is the bus stop for Cambridge, opposite is for Newmarket. Timetables are supplied in The Coach House. Parking in Cambridge If you are going for a site seeing tour of Cambridge, Park and Ride is probably the easiest way to get into the city. The nearest Park and Ride is a short distance from Quy on Newmarket Road. Turn right out of Orchard Street and head towards the A14/Cambridge. Turn right at the traffic lights and head into the left hand lane at the roundabout. Go straight over onto the A1303 to Cambridge (this is Newmarket Road). At the next roundabout go straight over and head onto the right hand lane. This is the lane for the Park and Ride. This service is £2.00 per person.
There are around 4 main well signposted Car Parks in the centre of Cambridge and are approximately £1.60 per hour. Please note that these and the traffic entering Cambridge gets extremely busy at peak times and weekends.
